Friday May 26
The celebration kicks off with the Festival debut of the Gila Glass Classic. This Flame-off event hosted by Silver City’s own, The Glasserie, will feature glass artists from the Southwest. In this competitive event, artists go torch to torch in a timed challenge to create amazing works of art right before your eyes. Plan on arriving early to catch the start of the Flame-Off, which runs 5pm to 10 pm. The Gila Glass Classic will be located in the tent next to the Beer & Spirits Pavilion. (Convenient right?)
The party gets kicked up a notch when Beale Street’s Ghost Town Blues Band takes the stage. The 4-time 2016 Independent Blues Award Nominee, BBMA 2015 Nominee for “Best Blues Band” and 2014 International Blues Challenge Runner-up is not your grandpa’s blues band. Their live show includes a second-line horn entrance, cigar box guitars, Allman Brothers style jams and even a hip-hop trombone player. Make sure you get a place to dance when 6:30 pm rolls around and the Ghost Town Blues Band rocks and rolls on stage.
Silver City comes alive after dark with more bands and activities downtown. If you are into bikes be sure to check out Q’s Southern Bistro. Sign up for the Kneeling Nun Bike Run or enjoy the activities for bikers and bike lovers. The Little Toad Creek Bar will also be putting on a show with Miller & the Other Sinners, pub food and more.
